The Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation (RIOC) is a New York State public-benefit corporation responsible for developing Roosevelt Island, a small strip of land in the East River, part of the borough of Manhattan. The Red Bus, a service of RIOC, provides bus service on a single route with regular, weekday rush-hour, and weekday morning express service between the Tram Station and the Octagon. In addition to its regular service connecting the Roosevelt Island tramway and subway stations with the rest of the island, the Red Bus also operates special event and commuter service, the latter only in effect when the tramway is shut down. Since 1994, RIOC has operated 9 New Flyer-built buses.
