The New York City Department of Transportation (NYCDOT) is the agency of the government of New York City responsible for the management of much of New York City's transportation infrastructure. Until 2006, the NYCDOT, under franchise contracts to seven private bus companies (Command Bus, Green Lines, Jamaica Buses, Liberty Lines, New York Bus Service, Queens Surface & Triboro Coach), operated approximately 50 local bus routes in the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Queens, and 35 express bus routes between Manhattan and the Bronx, Brooklyn. The companies operating the bus services received subsidies from the 1970s on to continue operation. Amid rising costs and declining customer satisfaction, the Mayor of NYC and the states Governor announced in April 2004 that the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) would take over management and operation of the bus services. NYCTDOT also operates the Staten Island Ferry. The ferry's single route runs through New York Harbor between the New York City boroughs of Manhattan and Staten Island, with ferry boats making the trip in approximately 25 minutes. The ferry operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and is fare free. During its operation, the NYCDOT franchies operated 357 MCI-built buses. How To Operate Menu: First select the model variation you wish to view, then select the fleet model and click the "ENTER GALLERY" button.
