Santa Clara VTA Flxible 9200s

Postby ClassicBusFan1981 » June 24th, 2010, 8:08 pm

Hi,

Of all the 91 1992 Flxible Metro "C"s operated by Santa Clara VTA, how many were repowered to Cummins ISM diesels and how many of those kept their original Cummins L10E engines to the end?

Number #9289 is one that is repowered, while units #9265 and #9269 I think had their L10E engines to the end. Any others, please let me know.

Thank you,

Of their big fleet, I believe that almost every coach that was still in service were repowered. Today many of the engines were retained for the older Gilligs and such, which are stored at the Chabot garage in north San Jose.

I also hint the Dumbarton Express 1992 Flxible Metro "C"s, of which there were six and had no rear door, also had their L10E Cummins engines changed over to the ISM Cummins in 2002 or so. Units are #150-155.

But of these six units, #150, #154 and #155 have Voith D863.2-W7 transmissions while unit #151 (and maybe #152-153 as well) use ZF Ecomat 4HP590 or 5HP590 transmissions.

Dumbarton Express has always been owned and operated by AC Transit. VTA also funded it until 2007. These buses were actually retired last week. Today AC Transit uses a mix of normally painted buses and specially painted Gilligs on the "DB". All the Flxibles (save for 153) were repainted into AC Transit's new scheme before they were retired.
