The Detroit Department of Transportation (DDOT) is the largest public transit provider in Michigan that serves the City of Detroit, surrounding suburbs, and neighboring cities, including Highland Park and Hamtramck. DDOT partners with the Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation (SMART), including a fare and ride agreement. It supplements the city with bus service linking the city to the rest of Metro Detroit and the Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport. DDOT also operates MetroLift, an on-demand paratransit service with 220 to 240 wheelchair-accessible vehicles in addition to its fixed-route bus service. Since inception, DDOT has operated 568 NFI-built buses.
